How do I get started?
Create an account, then complete your Research Request form (under your Profile). That gives us enough to begin your family research.
Where do I see my results?
From your Profile, use the “Roots Scout Hub” to access your Tree, Timeline, Story, Photos & Docs, and Messages.
How does the $39/mo subscription work?
You’re billed monthly until you cancel. You can manage your preferred billing method in your account settings (e.g., PayPal email, Cash App ID, or check/money order instructions).
How do I change or cancel my billing method?
Open Profile → “Manage Account Settings” → Billing Method. Update your PayPal email, Cash App ID, or choose mail-in checks. Changes apply to future payments.
What if I don’t know many details about my ancestors?
That’s okay. Fill in what you can; you can submit the form with partial info. We’ll start with that and follow up via Messages if we need more.
How long does research take?
Timelines vary by family and record availability. You can see your “Research Status” on your Profile and message us anytime.
How do you handle my data?
We take privacy seriously. Read our Privacy Policy for details on data collection, storage, and your rights.
Can I use Roots Scout like an app on my phone?
Yes. On supported devices you’ll see an “Install App” prompt in the footer. You can also use your browser’s “Add to Home Screen”.
How do I add photos or documents?
Uploads appear in “Photos & Docs.” Admins can also tag images to specific people in your Tree so they show up in the right places.
